logged a couple of obs on iNat. pretty sure also saw california digger bee and a small megachili species. The megachili seemed to be guarding wooly bee brush. will check phone camera to see if additional species are remotely clear and post if sort of okay...was at the garden for flower show so decided to look for bees before helping tear down show.
zilker garden. looked hard but only 1 very small native bee seen on blackfoot daisy in rose garden area (unable to get photo or be sure if carpenter or lasio with just eyes). plenty of honey bees and wasp varieties though. garden pretty crowded. 20+ ants (shiny acrobat?) milling all over bee box 9
Only one native bee observed, a large black bee with fuzzy yellow back but it was at some distance and moved too quickly to photograph. Other pollinator/nectar feeding species observed were honey bees, wasps, beetles, butterflies and hummingbirds. Conditions were partly sunny, very humid, slight intermittent winds and temp at 89F
Austin Nature Science Center. a little early and cloudy for much bee activity (930AM to 11 AM). Did see 2 abrupt digger bees at wall nesting site, but did not manage a good photo, but posted to iNat anyway. 3 native bee types seen.
Saw lots of bees on the blue curls by the parking lot. Also saw a Mexican honey wasp and some interesting flies.
learned past, but not looking currently active, site for ground nesting bees from a staff member. will continue to monitor for activity. Saw a few different species of native bees and documented in iNat. Only the abrupt digger bees allowed close approach today, with other native bees continuing to be cautious when people nearby.
Lots more blooms present in Mayfield Park but not much bee activity. Saw a Bombas sp. feeding on a cultivated snapdragon in Plot #14. No photo. Yellow head and back (maybe sonorus?) Lots of beetles, a wasp, a few honey bees and a Sphinx Moth. Temp 77, alternating overcast and sunny.
