    Volunteer at KaraMOKE with MemoryOK!

I was contacted by the NGO MemoryOk to recruit volunteers for their event at Baru Doral last Thursday February 27th. MemoryOk is a non-governmental organization that seeks to raise awareness and share the strategies to help the community of Doral and beyond to take care of their cognitive development and brain health. MemoryOk promoted their training programs through a Karaoke Event at Baru Doral and wanted volunteers to serve as ushers for approximately 60 people that registered for the event. They gave the role of main organizer for volunteers and we had a successful night after checking dozens of people in, registering new sponsors, giving raffle tickets, and sharing the mission and vision of MemoryOk.

MemoryOk invited many Doral figures like Mayor Christi Fraga and the councilmen to sponsor their courses on cognitive development and brain health.

After an amazing night my volunteers and I took a picture with Patricia (woman in the blue dress to my right) the director of the event.

As part of my service-learning project with Psi Beta, I tutored 5 students for 4.5 hours distributed in 9 weeks for each of them. Tutor them English to analyze their confidence program and ultimately present our results at multiple conferences such as URFIU and SEPA is the best representation of what being part of Psi Beta is. Besides tutoring my students, I also worked on the data analysis and research of the project as one of the co-authors.

With my partners from Psi Beta, Alessandro Santoro and Abigail Ruiz, I've developed a service learning project based on tutoring English and enhancing confidence for multicultural populations. I'm proud to have dedicated so much time to this project since December and be able to help students from ENGin, the Continuing Education department, and the EAP Lab. I'm grateful to everybody in the project to make "Giving Confidence: Tutoring English to Ukrainian Students and Beyond" a huge success now that we already presented our results at URFIU 2025 and will have three more conferences.

I donated four toys, worth a total of $20, to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and its Toys for Tots program. The mission of the toy drive is to provide children a sense of confidence and recognition, and to help them become responsible citizens.

Ongoing opportunities with The Aging Awareness Initiative

I watched two webinars of the Longevity Project Virtual Panels. I learned about how the elderly are affected nowadays; when looking for a job, workplace discrimination, media representation, and healthcare disparities. Additionally, I just learned about the Intergenerational Future, which focuses on fostering collaboration and understanding across different age groups to build a society where people of all generations can coexist and work together. These panels are very helpful if you're trying to find out more about the age disparities in our society, for example: wealth gaps, job opportunities, and access to healthcare.
After acknowledging all of this information, I can say that we need to create an intergenerational future for the sake of our community. We can build relationships with people from other generations, encourage initiatives of equitable policies regarding aging, and volunteer in programs that connect people of all ages. Join or create an intergenerational program in your community and educate others about the value of generational diversity. Together, we can shape a better tomorrow!

Volunteer Opportunity with Miami Book Fair 2025

I participated in 3 shifts for the FIFA Museum from Friday to Sunday. Each shift was 5 hours long from 9 AM to 2 PM. I helped children craft their own World Cup trophies with cardboard pieces, glue, aluminum, and stickers. I also gave history lessons to the kids about the World Cup from the first edition in 1930 to 2022. Finally, I participated in shooting drills most of the time. Overall, it was a great experience in which I wish to be part of again in the future.

Volunteer Opportunity with Miami Book Fair 2025

I completed 2 shifts of 3 hours each serving as an usher for 3 different speaker presentations. I guided people to the right places, telling them which line to follow, the time of the next presentation, and showing them relevant sites such as the restrooms, information table, book signing table, and where to get extra books. Johanna Lacoshea (JLacoshea@mdc.edu & 3052377845) can verify my attendance.
