Ka'Nessa Johnson

I volunteered at the Rockin Baker for three hours and I learned how to make bread! We sanitized all surfaces, and then put the ingredients into a big mixer. After everything was mixed, I helped cut and weight the dough then handed it off to be kneaded. Overall, this was a wonderful experience!!

I helped sort through/organize donations, and interacted with the kids. The people were very friendly and it was a great environment to be in!!

April 1st, I volunteered at the Shared Beginnings Adoption Agency for a fundraising event. I helped sort through donated clothes for an upcoming event, sort products for care packages and helped watch a group of children up to 5 years old. I really enjoyed volunteering here and interacting with the little kids! Everyone was so welcoming and the environment was great to be in!!

On March 16, I volunteered in Hotz for a Women's History Month event, and I was primarily at the welcome table handing out flowers. There were tacos, pastries and participants had the option to write letters to women they love. It was a pretty fun and relaxing event, and I loved handing out flowers to everyone!!

For my first honors event, I attended a zoom (informational) meeting about the Clinton School of Public Service. I learned about research opportunities, service projects and different degree and career opportunities. The meeting was more towards Junior and Senior level students who were looking to apply either this semester or next, but this was a great way to learn more about my different options!!

For my second Honors event I went to the downstairs lounge in Gearhart for what I thought was "De-stress for Finals," like I had seen on the honors event paper that I had. Instead of a destress event, I ended up learning about Native American boarding schools/assimilation camps. I enjoyed the conversation and learning a little bit even though I didn't watch the movie like everyone else. The discussion did make me interested in potentially watching the movie. (Native American History Month)

I completed the survey for Dr. Popp's food insecurity course!!

September 14th I attended an Honors event for Hispanic Heritage month. I went from table to table learning about different Hispanic traditions from places like Brazil and the Dominican Republic. On top of learning about different traditions and cultures, I also got to eat tacos!!
