The cleanup was a very eye opening experience as it showed how much we people litter. Much of the debris was dangerous like glass, needles, and nails, so cleaning the area was essential.
At backpack beginnings, I collaborated with my fellow honors college students as I sorted pairs of donated shoes for children in need. The experience was incredibly eye opening as it showed just how many of our resources and supplies are wasted after their initial use.

The materials donated for the drive are given to students attending a Tier I school which provides a tremendous boost for the families and allows them to allocate their funds differently and stress less.
In my two hours of volunteering, I worked alongside other volunteers to package thousands of pounds of food to feed hundreds of families in the triad area. This experience was incredibly eye-opening as I began to understand just how many people are affected by a lack of food. While volunteering, I discovered that a significant amount of food is wasted because of confusion around expiration dates. This discovery has since motivated me to bring more awareness to the discrepancies around food expiration dates.
