Weeks of Welcome Day of Service

Volunteering at the Memphis Botanic Gardens was very relaxed and fun! I learned about nature while helping prepare for a future event! Being able to serve in this capacity was a great opportunity to contribute to the community and allowed me to create a memorable experience for guests!

    Warm Welcome 2024

Helping students move in was a very rewarding experience! Being able to ease the nerves of freshmen by greeting them with a warm smile and helping them carry their belongings into their new dorm rooms created a positive and welcoming atmosphere on campus. I loved this volunteer experience!

    Community Lunch Program

My hands-on work of distributing bag lunches helped the larger community by giving people going through difficult times a meal for the day. I provided services to the impoverished and homeless. Everyone I came into contact with was excited to have lunch. My service was in keeping with my personal convictions to improve my community and assist those in need. Knowing that I was able to give someone in unfortunate circumstances a basic need made the experience both tremendously fulfilling and humbling for me. Memphis Rox is a mainstay in the neighborhood and, for many, a home away from home. I also learned that the community is quite close-knit. I intend to carry on volunteering at Memphis Rox because of the love shared there, it was truly a blessing to see so many smiles. I am happy that I was able to be a part of such a wonderful event.

Working the BSA fashion show was a valuable service I rendered to the community as it promoted Black Excellence and gave aspiring models and designers much-needed exposure. I served a variety of people and I believe that my presence was valued. Working as part of a team during the BSA fashion show allowed me to collaborate with others and share ideas. This teamwork enhanced my overall experience and made the event run smoothly. Personally, working at the BSA fashion show gave me a sense of fulfillment knowing that I contributed to promoting diversity and talent within the community. Volunteering with the BSA fashion show was a rewarding experience that allowed me to be part of something bigger than myself. I would definitely consider continuing to volunteer with this organization in the future!

    Service on Saturday- February 17th

My hands-on work organizing clothing for the underprivileged benefited members of the broader community by providing essential items to those in need and promoting a sense of unity and support among community members. I served the less fortunate community and this service was indirect so I am unaware of their reaction. Through my service, I improved my organization and time management skills by efficiently sorting and categorizing clothing donations. This service aligned with my personal beliefs because I believe in the importance of giving back to those in need and promoting a sense of community support. I learned that there is a significant need for basic essentials such as clothing among the less fortunate community. Additionally, I observed the positive impact that a sense of unity and support can have on individuals facing difficult circumstances.

    Food Mission Volunteer Opportunity

My direct service, preparing lunch for a local food society in Memphis, TN, benefited a broader community, particularly those suffering hardships by providing them with lunch for the day. I had the pleasure of serving the less fortunate of Memphis, TN and I believe they were pleased that I was there helping out. Through my direct service, my service skills were sharpened, and I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those experiencing food insecurity. I learned that several people lack food security, and it saddened my heart. My service aligned with my personal beliefs because the bible teaches believers to give. I not only gave my time today but also love and hope.
