Volunteering at Blazer Kitchen this semester has been phenomenal. I love the way everyone works together to create a positive experience for everyone including our shoppers. The only challenge for me was just getting through traffic some days on my drive in. Although traffic may have kinda affected my morning mood, being greeted and being thanked advanced was my chance I restart and move forward with a smile.
Great experience today working with other volunteers as we worked together to put together spice packs, restock, rotate pantry goods, and do other needed tasks as instructed to ensure Blazer Kitchen can continue to function properly and organized as they continue to serve.
Great experience learning how to work with different volunteers, and clients. Also gaining an understanding of how supply and demand work along with providing for clients and making sure resources are still available even if quantity provided has to be altered.
Today I had the opportunity to help unload items to stock Blazer Kitchen. Although we were not assisting anyone in the pantry during this time, I was able to enjoy learning hands-on information about Blazer Kitchen and meeting other volunteers who have different majors and from different walks of life. What I liked most about today was we worked together as a team to get the delivery unloaded and stocked in an efficient and effective time and manner. No one person was overwhelmed or overworked, we all put in the same amount of effort and achieved our mission.
I have not faced anything challenging as the environment is very friendly when someone notices you may need help they pitch in or ask if you need any help.
My key takeaway would be to learn how to be a team player even when you don't know who is on the team! At times do not know what to expect when working with others or volunteering but when you give and do your best more than likely others will do the same.
Completed SHARP Orientation via Zoom recording on September 19, 2023 in preparation for volunteering in the SHARP Program and completing assignments.
First-day shadowing and pairing with a partner to assist in a busy day was very interesting. I was quick to learn the process, meet and greet clients with ease, and received answers to questions with no problem!
I assisted Bridgeways by cutting out Blue Man Bobs for Session #7 on Bullying.
