For the art gallery series they gave advice and also shared a program about museum studies at Ellington and future career opportunities for emerging artists. Such as they recommended for emerging artists to begin to learn how to become more known in the art field in order to get known. As well as the meaning behind a painting called the mask and its importance of what it meant.
This was a interesting experience on how to know what labelling a work is and how to avoid censorship completely. I also liked how we did the event on YouTube and it was the first time that I had to watch a Live Stream all the way through, so this is an overall interesting experience and would like to encourage others to go to one of these meetings if you are interested.
In this presentation, I learned a lot about the work that museum curators do when creating art exhibits. It made me realize what an important, challenging, and rewarding profession it is. One of the speakers said that being a museum curator can give people a sense of influence, because they get to control what art pieces are displayed and talked about among the greater public, what communities and demographics have the opportunity to have their voices heard, and what parts of our culture and art as humans will be immortalized as generations come and go.
I didn't really know what the livestream was going to be about, but after watching I'm really glad I attended. I had thoughts about working in museums but wasn't quite sure. The speakers, having experience curating museums, really helped me realize some of the process and what they do when making exhibits or creating art shows. Although their specific fields didn't really match my interest, I still found the information good to know for the future.
I attended the Art Gallery Series via their you-tube link at PGCC TV. I thought I knew all about the challenges that artists face, especially on the social or economical stand point, however I was very wrong. I was very surprised to hear the stories the key speakers had about art censorship and art history. I really enjoyed hearing from all the key speakers, their advice for artists wanting to emerge and their own journeys figuring out art were my favorite takeaways from this session.
