Today was my first day volunteering for the YRCC! I highly enjoyed working with other volunteers and interns to get the kids active and have fun. I am volunteering for a program called X-Factor; a program for children who are homeschooled. The activity for today was basketball. Myself and other volunteers/interns taught the kids how to dribble, how to pass the basketball, and how to do a layup. We then had a fun game of basketball between the kids (they had a lot of fun with this)! Overall, I am so glad I got to gain experience in an environment that I plan on working in, in the future. Thank you YRCC for having me!
I had such a fun time working with elementary school students for Workout Wednesday. They had snack time as they entered the room, then we moved on to a short workout. For the rest of the afternoon, the children rotated between stations. I led the dice station where they would roll a dice and follow the coordinating workout.
The YRCC has been a great organization for me to complete my internship at this semester. They truly care about the community and are always putting their best foot forward to give the community exactly what they need. Being able to be apart of planning these events for our kids at the YRCC has been a super fun experience and has helped me improve on my teamwork and leadership skills. The YRCC stands on a firm foundation of community and strong morals, I’m so happy I got to be apart of a community organization and was able to give back to those around me.
I organized and cleaned the equipment and equipment room. I cleaned the basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, frisbee equipment, volleyballs, dodgeballs, scooters, I went over the fridge/microwave/cabinet area, and I did the floors in the equipment room.
I did inventory of craft supplies for an upcoming event. I cleaned the activity room and sanitized light switches and door handles around the building. T'is the season for the sneezen, and with the holidays around us, transmission is high, so keeping a community center like this clean is another way that we keep the kids (and their families) safe.
