I've been volunteering for the Tuesday after school program for K-3rd Graders. I got to play with the kids outside, look for books around the library and read to them.
Back at my favorite place for my last year! This year I am volunteering with the after-school program for career/college prep. Getting to work with older kids who are approaching high school graduation is so fun. We focus our discussions and activities on long-term and short-term goals and outline strategies to achieve those goals. Its a great way to allow the kids to have socialization while working towards their goals.
It was my first week participating in Canopy's after school program for K-3rd graders. I got to play with the kids outside as well as look for books in the library and read to them.
Volunteering with Canopy NWA has been an incredibly meaningful part of my college experience. Through this work, I have supported refugee families as they adjust to a new environment, while also building relationships with the children in the program. Some of the most rewarding moments have come from watching the kids simply be kids—spending time playing and bonding outside, exploring books together at the library, and expressing their creativity through art. Seeing their excitement as they prepared pieces for the end-of-year art show was especially impactful, as it reflected not only their growth but also their sense of belonging. These experiences have deepened my empathy, broadened my perspective, and reinforced the importance of fostering community through compassion and connection.
