Serving as a ballet counselor and mentor during the week-long Martha’s Vineyard summer intensive was a profoundly meaningful, "full circle" experience for me. Having spent 16 years training in classical ballet at the Jones-Haywood Dance School, I returned to support the next generation of dancers and give back to the community that shaped who I am today.

During the intensive, my responsibilities were diverse and hands-on. I assisted the dancers directly during their technique classes, helping them understand corrections and refine their form. I also helped facilitate lessons, cooked daily lunches to keep the dancers nourished and energized, and chaperoned them into town for recreational activities.

This experience deepened my understanding of leadership, mentorship, and responsibility. Stepping out of the role of a student and into the role of a guide allowed me to see the immense dedication required to foster a supportive and inspiring dance environment. Witnessing the young dancers’ growth, determination, and passion throughout the week was incredibly rewarding. Being able to offer them the same encouragement and mentorship that I received during my 16 years at Jones-Haywood was a privilege, reinforcing the vital importance of community and mentorship in the arts.
