    Capitol Area Food Bank

During this service opportunity the group worked on first unpackaging all the bulk item and opening the boxes so it is easier to place the items in the cardboard boxes when they are on the conveyor belt. Next my role was to place two cereal boxes in the box and pass it onto the next station. As this event was for senior citizens in the DMV area, proper nutrition is crucial for seniors, as their dietary needs differ from those of younger adults. Understanding the nutritional content of the cereals and ensuring they are healthy options can have significant health benefits. Ensuring that food is packaged correctly is essential for preventing spoilage and contamination, which is particularly important for older adults who may have compromised immune systems. This ties into microbiology and food safety practices.
