Today we had a lot of fun making ice cream sundaes and watching a movie for Halloween! I am starting to get to know the kids a lot more, and I realized how much it means to them when you remember their names every week and specific things they told you about. We had a lot of spills today too haha! However, instead of just hopping in and cleaning everything up for the kids, I tried to practice letting them help me and take accountability for their actions. They are almost always willing to help, and this will help them make independent choices in the future. Overall, I had so much fun. I can't wait for next week.

Today was my third day at the YRCC! We watched Hotel Transylvania and made snack mix with popcorn. A lot of my time today was just spent hanging out with the kids since there was not a true activity planned, and I love to talk with them! They are very excited for Halloween and the new month. One thing I did practice was telling kids no and explaining why. One child in particular does not take it well when we tell him no, but I realized that giving him a reason and not just saying "because" or "because I said so" actually helps him listen. Failing to leave gray area helps bring clarity to rules and also makes things seem fair and reasonable for the kids!
Today at the YRCC, we made candy corn colored fruit cups, and the kids colored a matching coloring sheet. It was fun to go back and see some of the kids I met last week, and they are always so excited to see us there. Today I learned that even though some kids choose to isolate themselves, they want to be seen and paid attention to as well. I saw a child named Kenton choosing to sit away from all of his friends, and instead of just leaving him there I asked if he wanted to come play. When given an invite, he got very excited. This inspired me to seek out the kids who do this, instead of just assuming they want to be left alone. Some just need an extra push!
Today was my first day volunteering at the YRCC! I am with the Littles, and they were so sweet and fun. I met two friends today, Lou and Azlan. Lou is the youngest child in the program and he loves to talk and hang out. Azlan loves to play pretend so we had fun doing that together! Because they are so young, I found myself jumping in to help when they really didn’t need it, so I practiced letting them take initiative. I am super excited for this semester!!
I brought 10 pairs of shoes for the Good News Shoe Drive
I bought 10 onesies for the Young Life Drive!
I sang in K2 this morning for the 9am and 1045 services!
So awesome!! Thank you!
