In this experience I further developed the skill to be flexible and adapt to different situations. We did not end up working the plant sale, but instead maintained the grounds of the garden. I also got to build teamwork skills. I learned more about the gardening and environmental communities. This also showed me how much work goes into maintaining the garden for people to enjoy. I plan to continue volunteering here because it feels like I am helping people in Memphis reconnect with nature. I am glad I sharpened my teamwork skills with the people around me.
This experience helped me build interpersonal communication skills, as I had to be able to adapt to what was needed of me throughout the day. I also learned about the community around me because I was able to learn and hear from many different cultural backgrounds. Teamwork was a large part of this commitment. I do plan to continue volunteering with the Botanic Gardens. Unexpectedly, we ran out of supplies near the end of the day. We took care of this by cleaning up the station and helping out at other stations afterwards.
This was a really fun continuation of last week's volunteering. I worked the same station and saw a lot more of the harvest festival. In this experience, I continued to focus on my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. The action I was doing was the same and I plan to continue volunteering at the botanic gardens. This program aligned with my beliefs because I believe children learn best when they are actively engaging with the content of the lesson.
This was an amazing experience. In this experience, I focused on my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. I worked with the parents to help children build scarecrows and navigated the age ranges of the children to properly give a short lesson on scarecrows and help them to the best of my ability. I learned a lot about school - aged children's thought processes and the most effective way of learning and grabbing attention. I worked as a team with the other people at the table to make the harvest festival the most engaging possible for parents and children alike. A goal of the part of the festival I attended was to increase the children's understanding of scarecrows and its history in a fun and engaging way, working with another person to learn the information myself and spread it in bite-sized easy to understand ways was helpful to my teamwork skills. I plan to continue volunteering at the botanic gardens. This program alined with my beliefs because I believe children learn best when they are actively engaging with the content of the lesson.
