Recently the best part about volunteering here has been when helping the children with their homework; you can see that most times they know what they are doing but there’s a mental block that discourages them from completing it; encouraging the kids and reminding them how much progress they have been making, and watching them begrudgingly get through their work has been extremely fulfilling and rewarding.

Today I was able to help a student with her homework, it was enlightening to see the how important having confidence is. On her homework the student repeatedly worth down the correct answers then erased them because she kept second guessing herself, so to watch her confidence slowly grow with each question was amazing. It was also fun to engage with the kids during play and have them explain how they play games slightly different from how I did as a kid but I think that difference just showed how big of a role your social environment growing up plays in ones life!
