I volunteered at a local church in Greensboro by cleaning and organizing a community refrigerator and food shelf that provide free food to those in need, including the homeless. My work involved removing expired items and ensuring the space was clean and welcoming for anyone who comes to access food.
During this event, I assisted with coordinating student placement for resume reviews and mock interviews. I assigned students to company tables based on their majors, aligning them with organizations that matched their career interest and field of study.
During the kids' recess, we introduced them to the basics of baseball. We covered the key rules and then let them practice with hitting a ball off a tee. We then created a mini game and gave the kids a chance to hit the ball and run around the bases. We encouraged them to be better teammates as they worked together on defense to get the runners out. Seeing their excitement as they connected with the ball and ran around the bases made the experience both memorable and rewarding!
At this sports clinic event, I had the rewarding experience of leading a football clinic for 3rd graders. Alongside other volunteers, we set up fun drills to get the kids warmed up and moving. We taught them the basics—how to hold, throw, and catch a football. Then, we organized 1v1 flag football games, giving the kids a chance to practice pulling flags and apply what they’d learned. It was great seeing their growth and excitement during the activity!
My experience with the pantry was surprisingly eye-opening given that I was able to see an immediate impact. While I was adding items to the pantry box, a woman and a man came over, looking through the items. The woman who was there had a cat in her arm and was struggling to grab the cans. I gave her two harris teeter bags that I had the cans in and she was able to put the cans in the bag while holding the cat. She thanked me for adding the items and walked back to her house.
Helped rearrange storage that would be given to teachers who were in need of supplies. Took boxes of books and sorted them into bins.
