Sulaiman Mathew-Wilson

Over spring break I participated in Howard University's Alternative Spring Break program in Charlotte, NC, under the initiatives of education & developing pathways to job stability. Across this week-long program, I did a wide variety of work that supported the Charlotte community. This included mentoring high school students in Title I schools in Charlotte, NC as well as in after school programs. However, while this work was really important, my impacts were not limited to just working directly with students, I also worked with multiple organizations that do critical work in supporting the Charlotte community, such as Hope for Harvest. Working with Hope for Harvest, I went around the city picking up trash and supporting their community garden. This experience was of particular interest to me due to my community gardening experience and my career interests within the environmental space, being an environmental studies major.
