Through the event, I learned about the various career options in tech, sparking ideas for my future path. This newfound knowledge will help me make informed decisions and take steps toward my career.
I learned about imposter syndrome on how to cope with it and I learned about the importance of code-switching. I engaged in a padlet activity and a Q&A session.
I engaged in further learning for the classes that I am currently taking. I learned that in college you always have to practice time management because you do not want to miss anything important and so you can actually relax when you want to.
I helped paint a gazebo, carried some supplies, and engaged in the community; the environment is beautiful. What I took from this wonderful opportunity is that just doing something even if it is small for a community can make a great impact and change for people.
I learned about internships, scholarships, networking, and programs in the S.T.E.M foundation. What I took from this is to take advantage of every opportunity, ensure you are happy with your progress, and not give up.
I explored the opportunity to become a paid near-peer mentor for a summer STEM internship. Through the session, I learned about the program's focus on hands-on activities at leading research institutions, sparking my interest in contributing to STEM education and gaining valuable mentorship experience.
I learned that transferring is not easy but I must use the tools that I have provided for me, always be on time, be consistent, and be alert so that I can achieve all my goals throughout my transfer process. What I took from this session is that I should be aware and driven through my goals for the transfer process as well as utilize the resources that I have.
I did not go to all the stations but of the stations that I went to, Loyola University Maryland, Howard University, and Grand Canyon University are private institutions that were in attendance at the transfer fair.
I went to not all but different stations and the admissions team for each college or university was very informative about their programs, scholarships, eligibility, what is expected in or of the school, etc and they were direct. I was engaged in all the activities and even won one of the raffles.
I learned about many scholarship opportunities through PGCC, tips to increase my chance of receiving a scholarship, and what I can use to my advantage being also aware of the deadlines of those scholarships. What I took from this is that it is important to always re-read applications, some schools combine scholarships, and always be aware of deadlines or plan in advance.
