Throughout my time at compost facility I spent my time picking up weeds and branches to clean up an area where compost was placed and wild flower seeds were planted. I learned that there is a lot of trash that is in compost that needs to be taken out so the compost is able to be used for planting. It was a very interesting experience because it was something that put me out of my comfort zone and I was able to learn.

Throughout my time at the muse I cleaned pumpkins so that they were ready to paint for the children. After getting the pumpkins set up, I was then moved to my station which was helping out with the pumpkin painting. I helped refill paint, guided children and parents to their spot so that they were able to paint. I saw lots of great costumes and great painted pumpkins. At the end I made sure that all the paint brushes were cleaned and that my area was all clean. I also was able to listen to the silent disco which was very fun. Overall, I had a great time and would love to go again!!
Today I volunteered with KCDC at love towers which was such a great time! My job was to make cotton candy to anyone who wanted it and honestly it was such a great time seeing everyone get excited about it. There were older adults that went to the resource fair and many of them told me that they had not had cotton candy since they were younger so I am so glad that I was able to put a smile on their faces! I also met two other UTK students and it was really nice talking to them! Overall, volunteering with KCDC again was so much fun and I would do it again!
I had a wonderful time at the KCDC resource fair. My job was to make pop corn and serve it to the guests attending the resource fair. I have never made popcorn before with a popcorn machine so it was really fun and interesting. I also got to see how cotton candy was made and I met another girl from utk. Seeing the kids so excited to eat the cotton candy and popcorn was so much fun! Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely do it again!!
During my time at Beardsley we weeded the asparagus garden. We harvested collard greens and kale and we bagged them so that they were ready to be given to the food banks. I also learned that they give all the things they harvest to food banks to help people with food insecurities.
During my time volunteering, we made a moist batch of soil by adding water to the dry soil and then putting them into bins. We went to the strawberry garden and thinned out the strawberries so they were not so close together. I also learned that leaves are great for decomposing. We also weeded one of the garden beds towards the end.
