FA24 LVE 305 CRN 2464 – Exploring Human Rights, Advocacy for Veterans, and Working with Children and Youth at Risk

On my last day, Mark ( my supervisor) told me that I helped benefit the place for the better by helping them with creating the website for the different types of boxes that they provide at the food bank. Other than that, it felt weird leaving, especially since I know that the food bank still needs more help. I plan to return to the food bank to help with things they need in the future, especially with technology.

This day was really calm, and we saw more families coming through the food bank looking for meat items. The meat items are one the first to go since its costly to purchase in the grocery store. During our down time we try to organize as much as we can into the same boxes from the truck so that we know where to look for specific items.

This day was a lot of work, We have received so many loads of food from the grocery store but since we have a smaller fridge to place the food in a lot of the food goes unchecked. We had to remove all the food in the fridge and quickly sort out the open/ rotten food. It was shocking to see how quickly food goes bad or got damaged on the way here. We did sort it so that similar items were placed together in the same box and created ready to go packs for when families go through. Overall, it was good.

This day was good, this day was the first time I was able to see and unload the food truck that comes and drops off the food. When the truck came, the leads brought out very tall Pushcarts and we stacked the boxed on top on one another until there wasn't anymore room. We had to work quickly because in this drop-off there was a lot of dairy products and it was important not to have it outside for too long. Overall, it was a good day and we created a lot of family care packages

I recently started my volunteer work with a food bank in my local community. I have a very time constricting schedule and they were able to work with me well. On this day I learned about how to create different food packages including food such as Milk, eggs, salads, Soups, Meats and cereals. I noticed that every time a volunteer came in the owner would have to repeatedly explain how to create the packages. I Offered to create a QR code that has images on how to pack specific items and make the introduction process easier on the food bank workers. Over all it was a good experience seeing that I can help in more ways than one.
