This time we taught the kids about the difference between needs and wants. We taught them it is crucial to take care of needs first, such as food, a house and then they could address their wants. The kids understood that they wont be able to get everything they want all the time but by staying in school and eventually pursuing a college education they open the doors to more financial opportunities.

It was a great experience getting to go out into the east Austin community and getting to teach kids about financial literacy. Although it may seem like it is not that important at this young of an age, it is important to get them started young so that they may make smart financial decisions down the road. More importantly, being part of capital community is a fulfilling experience because it has provided me the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of children.

It was a great experience getting to know the kids I tutored for Capital Community. Although it may seem like they are not too interested in financial literacy, it is definitely a great idea to start them young. There is nothing better than knowing that you can have a lasting impact on the lives of children.
Volunteering to tutor kids at Charles Akins was a great experience simply because I got to share some of the stuff that I have learned throughout my academic years. It was also inspiring to see the kids look up to us because we were college students. The best part, however, was being able to tell them that if I could do it, so could they. I loved getting to interact with these high school students and help them, even if it was only with one homework problem.
Being able to help out and clean a portion E. Cesar Chavez St. was a great experience because it made me reflect on the importance on giving back to our communities and keeping them clean. I learned that our communities will rise by caring for each other and giving back. No matter how far life may take me, I will never forget my roots. I want people to understand that although some circumstances are not quite favorable it is highly important to help others. As one of my friends told me when we were picking up trash, "Lift as you climb".
The Holiday Heroes Project was a great experience that only helped me realize how much out troops do to protect our freedom.
