I believe the session was useful and helped me reflect on my traits and how they can benefit me in my major.
I did food preparation I assembled bags that had sandwiches, fruit, trail mix, and utensils then stored them once I was done. After that I organized some of the stock.
We helped set up tables by putting table clothes down and setting up baskets of fruits, vegetables, and dry food. We then gave out these items to children and parents after dismissal.
We helped bring bags of groceries out to display them on tables for children and parents. We gave out bags of groceries and also gave science kits to the children.
We talked about what imposter syndrome is, belonging, and code-switching. We also talked about how code-switching can be a positive and negative thing.
I enjoyed the meeting and learned more about what I need to do to prepare to transfer to a four year school.
During this time I was in the Academic Recovery Standing meeting where they went over the new requirements for the following year in the program. They went through the different requirements to stay in good standing with the program. One new thing I learned is that I have to participate in one of the scholarship groups whether it be TRIO, DMSI, or WOW.
We started off making bags for the first hour and then the second half of the time we were creating 3-400 bags of groceries that will be dropped of at various schools.
Me and a couple of volunteers packed 45 bags of groceries to give to the kids at Apple Tree Earky Learning Charter School. We made bags with stuffing, onions, apples, pomegranates, macaroni elbows, squash, and collard greens.
