I went to see the play the Piano Lesson on Friday. It was a play about Black generational trauma by August Wilson. I enjoyed it. The actors were good, and I liked the set that they used. I don't know if I'm the correct audience to fully understand the play, but I still think I understood a lot of the ideas it was trying to convey. I enjoyed the idea of a haunted piano though. I went with my mom, and she got the ticket confirmations, so she can confirm I went.

I went to the I Love PGCC Business Showcase. I got to look at the booths and learn about some of the businesses that students at the school run. There was bonnets for hair, clothing, accessories, cake, soap, pens, and even a group with a board game. I bought myself a bracelet at one booth, and I got my grandma a pen at another. There was an rsvp form I filled out, and the event was sponsored by student engagement and leadership so I put them down as the verifiers just so I could submit this.
I went to an in person event for professional studies week with my mom because she wanted to support her professor. It was an event on accounting. I learned a little bit about taxes, the types of businesses a person can create/register, and about accounting principals and certifications.
This event taught me a little more about transferring to another college. Some of the information doesn't apply to me so far as I can tell, but some of it was really useful. I learned about what going to UMGC may be like from an alumni, and about the general process, things to look up, and who to ask questions (generally). This should help me as I try to transfer to a new school.
The event was interesting. I learned about the various ways to get help and report information to the relevant authorities, including an app that I can download. The presentation also taught me about some things that I should and can report, aside from the obvious things, and situations in which I can ask for an escort or for a building to be locked down, and other things that can improve safety. I think I learned alot about keeping myself safe on campus overall.
This event was about AWS and trying to use AWS machines to train a little car to drive by itself. I went because my professor was the presenter. They didn't get far enough to train the car, but I did learn about some of the things that AWS and cloud services can be utilized to do, as well as how you can teach a car to drive by itself. You could focus on following a line, avoiding obstacles, or not swerving. I don't normally seek information on stuff like that, so it was an enriching experience.
This event was a presentation about our strengths as college students. It helped me to consider my talents and which ones I want to develop and work on now. My talents and what I like to do should help me consider what I'll do after I graduate. There was also some information at the end on TRIO SSS and other groups/events and I'll have to consider trying to get involved with those for the involvement hours.
At today's town hall meeting I learned some new things about the college. They provided reminders of programs and resources that I can access, for example. There was also information on what I need to do for graduation, upcoming events like the black history events for this month and events at the performing arts center, and information on bills in the local senate and house that we can mail our representatives in support of. They also spoke about local problems at the college and gave information on a survey that I took in the fall.
I learned about what's new with the special scholarship requirements, as well as how to submit service hours for events not listed in givepulse and about student code of conduct/academic integrity violations.
I attended the job/resource fair for an hour today. It was an interesting experience for me. I had to talk to employers and company representatives about myself and about what I'm doing at the school, and I got information that could get me an internship or part time job. I gave out a few copies of my resume, and I got some business cards and papers from the various groups and people who were there. I was nervous to do that stuff all on my own, but I did it. I also got to talk with Ms. Wiley from the internships office about what I should do next.
