I helped gather groceries for clients.
it felt good helping out and giving people groceries .
week 1 orientation
I helped a client search for a job and made notes about potential jobs.
I restocked the shelves with cleaning supplies and attended the one roof meeting.
I created a table with the information from my search for event centers.
I sorted participant update sheets and called around to event centers in Birmingham.
I completed check in calls and also did satisfaction surveys.
During my volunteer experience at Youth Towers, I made check-in calls with individuals who had exited the system to see if they needed support. I enjoyed being part of a continued support system, helping young adults navigate life beyond the program.
The most challenging part was that many phone numbers were out of service, making it difficult to reach people who might need help. This highlighted the instability that often comes with housing insecurity.
My key takeaway is that follow-up care is essential, but it requires persistence and adaptability. Even when direct contact isn’t possible, ongoing outreach is vital to maintaining connections and offering support whenever possible. This experience reinforced the importance of patience and compassion in social work.
