I assisted in the construction of a motivational poster for the week of academic finals at the University of Texas at Austin, under the guidance of my University Leadership Network mentor. I created it with the intention of providing a comical undertone to an often stressful time for college students. A group of three other members assisted me, and we completed it. Although this activity may seem a bit trivial, the joy and other reactions that it generated demonstrates how far a simple poster can go in bettering society.
I assisted in the baking and distribution of cupcakes to students who were studying in the Perry–Castañeda Library at the University of Texas at Austin. This service event was very enjoyable for many reasons, but some of the more noteworthy ones are as follows. I finally had the opportunity to bond with my small group from the University Leadership Network as we all cooperated to bake, decorate, and deliver the cupcakes. My specific role in the preparation for this event was to find inspirational quotes to be placed in each cupcake that would offer motivation to students who were studying and readying themselves for finals. The most gratifying aspect of this whole process was when the targeted students immediately gained a confidence and moral boost from the gifting of a simple cupcake. Overall, I would definitely do it again, given that I had the same awesome team of altruistic classmates, mentors, and administrators.
Although it was but for a brief time, I enjoyed the satisfaction of lending my free hand to helping rid the flower beds of weeds. The managers were extremely friendly, and I wouldn't mind returning back here to volunteer again. Cheers.
Gardening has always been of my passions growing up, so this was a lovely extension of my desire to continue that part of my heritage throughout college. I was also invited to join the Leadership Team, despite this being my first meeting. Overall, great group of individuals who realize that a single seed sown will sprout into a wonderful and vast production of healthy food and work ethic. I'll definitely be back the following Sundays to ensure that everyone is learning while they work. Thank you.
