I participated in the Streamside Sapling Planting hosted by TreeFolks. It was fun working outside, especially since it was cold enough to keep us from sweating too much. The experience was well organized, and I was able to plant about a dozen saplings. I enjoyed the event and would volunteer there again next semester.

The event I volunteered at was the Spring Family Festival in Boerne, TX. It was an event that lasted from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, but we arrived early to help set up the booths. The event was a festival for local families, and it included activities for children such as an egg hunt, kite flying, and face painting. Our duties as volunteers included helping run the activity booths as well as set up and take down decorations and the booths themselves. Overall, I found it very fun to run the booths and interact with the children, especially on the day before Easter.
This was my second year volunteering at this event, which was St. Cyril's Thanksgiving Day Meal, an event where we prepared traditional Thanksgiving Day dishes for about 200 homeless people in our community. It was just as fun as the first year I did it, and it was fulfilling to see the impact our time and effort had on those less fortunate. My duties included setting up the dining hall with tables and chairs, decorating the hall, running food from the kitchen to the dining hall, and helping serve food in the line.
In this volunteering activity, we helped set up and organize the Longhorn Run. This entailed filling water bottles for the runners and setting out post-run snacks and drinks. We also helped with the clean up of the race by taking down barriers and packing extra supplies. I had fun seeing my fellow longhorns and run and finish the race, and it was enjoyable serving my community.
We helped the Thinkery staff make icing, prepare the basic structure of gingerbread houses, and sort the decorative candy for children participating in the Gingerbread Workshop.
I served as part of a team that organized a Thanksgiving Day feast for the homeless. Preparation for the event started at 6 am in the morning, but it was worth it seeing over 250 people enjoy the food we prepared for them.
It was enjoyable, and I would do it again!
Planting trees and removing invasive species was enjoyable, and I would definitely do it again.

Karlo, Can you please provide a brief description/review of this service project so I can verify the hours? Thank you. -DeAna
