It was a joy to join the volunteers at Catholic Charities as we served the community this morning. People were able to drive through and pick up boxes of food that offer a supply of goods for the month. I served as a recorder of the households information and would stamp the cards to signify that they came. It was a lot of fun getting to interact with the consumers and I enjoy greeting them as they pull in. I will definitely be back to volunteer again.

The mobile food pantry served over 50 families this Saturday and to be a part of that was pretty sweet! I gathered information from those who came based on whether or not they had come previously. There were so many people there to help so the process of getting each family their box of food went very smoothly. I enjoyed getting to serve alongside other students from the University of Memphis and those who work to make the Memphis a better place everyday. I look forward to volunteering with the Catholic Charities again in the future.
I served at the Mobile Food Pantry and loved having the opportunity to do so. I was given a run down of my job for the day upon arrival and then from 9-11 am there was little down time. I greeted people as they pulled in to the church's lot and got the needed information from the individuals based on if they had been to get food previously. It was really neat to chat with the people who truly love this ministry and are there every week helping to make this drive through happen. I really enjoyed getting to be apart of servicing those in our community who need food for their families and loved getting to see the resources being offered to those in need first hand. Catholic Charities is doing a lot for Memphis and it was an honor to be a small part of that.
I volunteered at Memphis Animal Services Field Day and it was so much fun! I was given a dog, Thee, to take for a few hours and was tasked with having fun and taking pictures of it all. Thee and I went to Lowe's because it was a rainy day and made many friends. I was sure to tell them all that she was available for adoption at MAS! After our time was over, I sent the staff an email with how awesome my time was with some really cute pictures of Thee attached. The information I submitted will serve as a spotlight on my dog so that she is more likely to get adopted. It was a privilege to meet others who wanted to serve this organization in the same way and someone even adopted the dog they took for the day. MAS does so much for our city and I would gladly go hang out with their pups again.
I served with LeBonheur Paws for Service this morning by helping set up for their coin drive. This event is raising money for the children's hospital to provide their patient's with toys for Christmas. We set up a table and poster to advertise the event. It is a privilege to be apart of a club that is so focused on outreach and has such a clear focus on providing for the needs of a hospital that does so much to provide our community with quality care.
Serving at Le Bonheur Pumpkin Run is always a blast! I got there and went straight to helping set up tables and chairs, folding t-shirts, and checking trash cans for liners. Once the preparations were finishing, I made my way onto the course to cheer on the runners as they started the race. Everyone was dressed up in costumes and was excited to support the hospital through this event! After the race and post- race amenities were done, I assisted with cleaning up all that had been set out. I have worked this event many times and am always amazed at how Le Bonheur is serving our community in such an impactful way.
I volunteered with the Memphis Area Prevention Coalition at the farmer's market downtown. We set up and ran a table with information about alcohol, tobacco and drug misuse in Shelby County. Our goal was to provide people with education on the resources offered to people in need, such as needle exchanges, free HIV and Hep-C testing, and Narcan doses. It was a judgment free zone for people to come, share, and learn. I am so grateful for this opportunity and all that this organization is doing in our city.
I had the privilege of sorting, organizing, and quality checking all kinds of food products for Mid-South Food Bank to distribute all over the community of Memphis and the surrounding areas. It was such a joy to make new friends and really feel like I was making an impact. It was amazing to see the behind the scenes of the organization and learn a little bit of history about the company as well. I would love to serve with them again.
I spent my weekend painting a home for a member of the lodges community to enjoy. It was an opportunity to maintain the work that has been done in the past and gave it a fresh new look. It was absolutely beautiful outside and the area in which we worked was so peaceful. It was a pleasure to serve them again.
Our service at Mitchell Heights actually ended up being canceled. I was moved to O.T. Fuller State Park to assist with the many service opportunities being offered there. I joined the group of students helping put signs along the hiking trails in the park. We carried the metal poles, equipment to put them deep in the ground, and wood signs to attach. It was a beautiful walk and time of learning about the history of the park.
