Katlyn Morris

I served under Alternative Break Experience in Marsh Harbour, Bahamas. Here, we aided families and the local AGAPE school following the devastation of Hurrican Dorian in 2019. Our work included clearing debris outside the homes of two local families, and reorganizing, cleaning, painting, insulation, and fence maintenance at the school. This service experience has changed my life. Our work allowed us to not only help those in need but to understand their perspectives and connect with them on a personal level. I learned that true service begins with one primary goal: to understand and respect the needs of the community. This has inspired me to keep this value at the forefront of any service I participate in. From local Bahamians and my team, I have gained new perspectives on service, culture, and life that I will carry with me forever. As a senior, this trip is also near and dear to me as it is the last one I will take as an undergraduate student at the University of Memphis. I love ABE and highly recommend to anyone who loves service and growth!
