A group of Walmart volunteers came in to help out and I was put in charge of leading a group since I had been there before. My group and I were in charge of taking things out of boxes in one of the storage rooms downstairs and organizing them onto the shelves. We were also in charge of organizing the diaper/baby wipes room where boxes of different sized diapers are stored that have been donated to the organization for the mom's that need them. Before they arrived, I did inventory on recently donated household items as well as helping clean out the main lobby area to prepare for remodeling.

I served as an interview panelist during the Path Program interview weekend for the incoming class of members. It was definitely different being on the other end of the interview and less nerve wrecking for sure. It was great being able to listen to the interviewee's responses to the questions we asked as well as the goals they want to accomplish while at the UofA. I wish it had been in person this year, but it was a great experience over zoom nonetheless.

    Jocelynn @ Resume basics

I joined the resume basics zoom meeting to get tips on what makes a good resume and ways to make it stand out. We were told to only include relevant experience for the job we will apply to since employers do not pay much attention to information not relevant to what they're looking for, limit it to one page, and make sure it flows smoothly.

Jocelynn @ Current student scholarship workshop

The current student scholarship workshop zoom meeting went over things like how to write a strong essay as well as the different college/major specific scholarships available. They also talked about recommendations and making sure to ask someone with plenty of time in advance and someone you know will say good things about you. It was a short but helpful run through.

    Jocelynn @ Mojitos Mexican Grill

This was my fourth year helping out at the Outstanding Giving Awards that Mojitos hosts. I helped with table set up, greeting and directing guests to their table, and cleaning up once the event was over.

I attended the U of A alum Ayana Gray lecture via zoom. She is the author of Beasts of Prey, a book that follows two teens on a fantasy adventure. I really enjoyed her speak about the process of writing and everything it took to get to the point of becoming a published author. She spoke about the lack of representation in the books she read growing up or if there was someone that looked like her, the author made them sort of reserved and shy. When writing this book, she said she wanted to make the main character someone girls like her can relate to and feel represented by. She wanted to make her loud, confident, and strong. I related to the lack of representation part of her lecture because there isn't very many books with Latina main characters. Ayana really emphasized that you can accomplish anything if you really want it and have a passion for it.
