J.J. Harris Elementary Book Distributions

As a volunteer, you will be helping by:

• Set up and arrange books in a fun, shoppable layout

• Restock tables as classes rotate through

• Support our checkout process (counting books to ensure they have 12 and asking a few short survey questions)

Reminders!

Plan for parking - Parking is limited (see map below). Please allow extra time to park and walk to the building. Carpooling is encouraged whenever possible.

Bring your Driver’s License - You must check in at the school’s front office before volunteering. A valid Driver’s License is required for entry; please do not forget it!
After signing in, you’ll be directed to the school library, where the book magic happens!

Stay for your full shift - Volunteer shifts are scheduled around class visits. Volunteers must stay for the entire shift. If something arises, please notify us as soon as possible at volunteer@booksforkeeps.org

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I go?

Enter through the school’s front entrance and check in at the front office with your Driver’s License. Staff will direct you to the media center.

What should I wear? 

Think comfortable and school-appropriate! 

• Closed-toe, comfortable shoes (you’ll be on your feet!)

• Avoid tank tops; sleeveless, low-cut, or cropped shirts

• Shorts should be at least fingertip length

• Jeans, longer shorts, skirts or dresses, and t-shirts are all great options

Is there a training?

Yes! The first 10 minutes of your shift include a required orientation. Please arrive on time so you don’t miss important information.

What should I bring?

• Your Driver’s License (required for entry)

• A water bottle

When planning for your shift, please consider the following:

• Parking at schools is limited so please account for the time it may take to secure parking and walk into the building.
• Before reporting to the media center, volunteers must sign in at the front office.
• It is crucial that volunteers plan to stay for their entire shift.
• BFK staff will provide a brief orientation during the first 10 minutes of each shift.
• You will be on your feet for most of the time, please wear comfortable shoes!
