In my role as a student volunteer for the promise scholarship Launch Orientation Street Team, I was assigned to guide new students through campus, provide them with valuable insight into college life at PGCC. I also worked with others to make sure the events at the orientation were done seamlessly. I also was assigned to oversee the beverage and food services for all attendees.
At the start of the Launch Orientation, another student and I were given piles of printed schedules for groups A-I. We were told to sort the schedules into their individual pile alphabetically. Then we separated each pile into 5 ways for the students who were checking in to hand out. Afterwards, I began to help with check-in. Throughout check-in, I answered questions, guided students, and helped if they needed anything. Then around lunch time, I and another student helped with retrieving the drinks, chips, plates, napkins, and cookies. I also helped with arranging the snacks in time for lunch.
The launch was interesting and impactful because I was able to meet new students, work hand in hand with them and also meet new people and share some of my educational experience with them so far.
I collaborated with a great team to welcome incoming students to PGCC. My day involved organizing orientation schedules, managing student check-in, and helping set up the afternoon lunch service. I loved taking charge of a student group, guiding them smoothly across campus, and sharing my own college experiences to give them an impactful start.
I enjoyed helping students; it reminded me of when I went to launch orientation for the first time. Something that I learned is the feeling when you can help another person.
It was fun helping out. Guiding students and attending the sessions with them reacquainted me with the campus layout and reminded me of the resources available to me as a student.
I had a great time being able to help the new students coming to the Promise scholarship. I was Putin charge of a group as well and did my best to make sure they transitioned smoothly to each location they needed to be at.
It was really exciting to help out for orientation. I loved how everyone worked together especially when it came to handing out the food it felt nice working together to make something bigger. While the schedule was confusing at first, I got the hang of it and understood how each group a,bc, etc was separated and in their room according to schedule.
