At this Service on Saturday Event, I had the opportunity to work with Memphis City Beautiful. This experience strengthened my teamwork and physical endurance. Working outdoors and handling heavy mulch required effort and persistence, and it taught me how to stay productive even when tasks are tiring. At this event, I mulched trees, which helped me better understand the importance of maintaining green spaces in the community. I learned how proper care, like mulching, supports tree health and contributes to a cleaner and more attractive environment. I worked as a part of a team made up of other University of Memphis students, which made the process much faster and more efficient. Because the trees were spread far apart and the mulch was heavy, teamwork allowed us to divide responsibilities and successfully complete all the tasks that were assigned to us. My service aligned with the goals of Memphis City Beautiful because I helped mulch trees that will improve the appearance and environmental quality of the city. By contributing to the care of these trees, I supported their mission of making Memphis a more beautiful place. One of the biggest challenges at this event was transporting heavy mulch to tree sites that were spread far apart. To overcome this, my team and I stayed focused and working with one another to share the workload, which made the tasks much more manageable. This experience changed my perspective by showing me that even small, hands-on efforts can make a significant difference in the community. It also made me realize that everyone in the city has a role in maintaining and improving the environment. So, from this event, I was able to learn how volunteering in the community can have a lasting impact on the environment.
