This experience allowed me to meet new faces within the community of Jackson, MS. Through communicating with some of the people getting their blood glucose tested and their blood pressure checked, I was able to connect with them. I was helping meet a physical need as well as see them right where they were. Little did they know, I felt seen just as much as I was trying to make them feel seen. It was a time of caring, sharing, and blessing. Through asking them where they were headed or what they had planned for the day, I got to understand the deeper issues they face than diabetes, or high blood pressure. I understood that there is a pressure, whether good or bad, in all situations. Yet, it is how we deal with that pressure, that determines the outcome. These people are taking a step in the right direction by seeking out medical care.
I really enjoyed helping out :)
I really loved helping today and will continue to sign up!
Working with JFC at the We Will Go Center had a meaningful impact on the community by promoting health awareness and encouraging preventive care. By administering brochures and engaging directly with individuals, we helped educate the public about vital health information. Offering free blood pressure and sugar checks allowed us to support early detection and connect people to needed resources.
Volunteering in the outreach event was a rewarding experience! It allowed me to practice clinical skills with free screenings, educate community members, and help promote awareness of hypertension and diabetes. The members of the event were very welcoming!
