In this activity I donated to support No More Tears, a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers and founded by actress Somy Ali. This organization is significant due to its ease of access and variety of services provided, including shelter, legal help, counseling, and financial assistance. I am currently an employee of 211 Miami, an information and referral line for social services in Miami-Dade, and I always refer people to this agency since I have personally spoken with domestic abuse victims that describe difficulties with finding resources or getting help. Even domestic violence shelters helmed by the county are bogged down by lack of funding, space, and the slow process of program approval. An organization like No More Tears is not typically bogged down by these logistical issues since their funding and services are volunteer-led. I wholeheartedly support this organization and its message, more crowd-funded and volunteer based organizations would do wonders to enhance access to these services, not just in cities but in other more remote areas of the country as well.
