About
Hello!
My name is Megan, and I’m a Senior Care Navigator working with an older adult client and his wife in Potomac, MD (20854).
I’m reaching out to see if anyone is interested in a volunteer companion opportunity that could also count toward service hours or service-learning requirements.
My client, Fred, is an older adult in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and experiencing some word-finding and language regression. He still lives at home with his wife, Marjory, and remains physically active and socially engaged. They have several activities available in the home (including ping pong and shuffleboard), and what they are really hoping for is a consistent, friendly visitor who can:
-
Spend 1–2 hours per week at their home in Potomac
-
Engage Fred in light, low-pressure activities (games, music, conversation, looking at photos, etc.)
-
Offer social connection, emotional support, and companionship
This would be non-medical, social support only, with no personal care tasks involved. I can provide guidance to the volunteer about how to best communicate with someone with early Alzheimer’s and word regression, and Marjory will always be present in the home.
For students, this could be a meaningful way to:
- Earn volunteer or service-learning hours
- Gain experience with older adults and cognitive changes
- Build skills in communication, patience, and relationship-building
Thank you for considering this opportunity.
