About

Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) believes sailing is a unique experience that builds lifelong character, teaches invaluable skills, and fosters a positive active community. SEA is dedicated to promoting sailing through affordable instruction and related on the water activities.

Although SEA has been in operation for over 40 years, we are at a point where we cannot sustain, much less grow, programming without diversifying our support.  Over the last 10 years, but particularly since the pandemic, SEA has slowly winnowed its offerings and reduced its engagement with the broader Marin community. In the summer of 2024, SEA’s board secured a new Program Director who is committed to rebuilding the program infrastructure, strengthening program offerings, and reestablishing community partnerships. SEA would benefit deeply from a sustained effort on any of these fronts.

SEA can offer volunteers meaningful opportunities to gain professional experience in nonprofit administration, program development, fundraising, and community engagement. While volunteers with a background and interest in sailing are more likely to see this as a relevant opportunity, volunteering with SEA is ideal for any anyone interested in community development, outdoor education, or youth programs.

All volunteer activities can be done remotely but include opportunities to visit SEA’s site and participate in recreational sailing events if desired. Below are some key volunteer opportunities with SEA, however we are open to creative ideas that fit volunteer needs.

1. Curriculum Development

  • Needs: Expand programs for low-income youth and integrate environmental education content into youth programming.
  • Role:
    • Review existing curriculum and recommend adaptations for targeted audiences.
    • Research environmental education content suitable for integration.
    • Develop lesson plans under the guidance of the Program Director.

    • Summarize survey results and provide recommendations for programming improvements.
    • Collaborate with the Program Director to develop engagement strategies.

3. Fundraising Support

  • Needs: To become more resilient and better support community needs, we need to grow and diversify revenue sources.
  • Role:
    • Research and identify grant opportunities.
    • Assist with drafting grant applications.
    • Conduct outreach to potential sponsors.
