About

River Rendezvous is a watershed extravaganza where volunteers collect water samples from rivers and creeks in the Upper Oconee Watershed to analyze the health of our streams. We will meet at Sandy Creek Nature Center for a brief training session and a light breakfast, then we will send teams of volunteers out to our 40+ water quality monitoring sites in around the Athens area. One member of the team will need to provide transportation. Volunteers will take water samples and return to Sandy Creek Nature Center with the samples for chemical testing. There is no experience needed for volunteers, all the necessary training will be provided by UOWN. The volunteers should dress in clothing that they don’t mind getting dirty. We also recommend that our volunteers wear both long pants and closed-toe shoes as sample sites might contain briars. Refreshments will be provided by UOWN following sample collection when you can also observe water quality testing in progress and help sort macro invertebrates.

I have been asked by Sandy Creek Nature Center (SCNC) to encourage y'all to carpool, because there is limited parking. We will have someone to direct traffic as needed in the parking lot of SCNC.
