About

NEWCNA residents are invited to attend a training session on identifying and removing (girdling) an invasive tree species that is thriving along our section of Walnut Creek --Ligustrum Lucidum!

We have the privilege of joining forces with an across-the-creek neighbor, Deana Dossey, chair of the Friends of Copperfield Nature Trails. Deana has been organizing Ligustrum girdling events on the other side of Walnut Creek for long time now and has lots of valuable knowledge and experience to share with us!

This training session will be hosted at Ursula's private, creekside home (11649 River Oaks Trail, Austin Texas 78753). Ursula has an abundance of Ligustrum and has agreed to allow us to learn and practice in her backyard. The goal of this session will be for NEWCNA residents to learn how to identify Ligustrum Lucidum and proper techniques for safe removal. Once the pocket park at January/February Dr. changes hands from Watershed to Austin Parks, we will host girdling sessions there, as well. In the interim, creekside residents are welcome to apply the lessons and learning in their own backyards.

Come with your gloves, work boots, long pants, and a water bottle. We will provide girdling tools and equipment! Please also watch this 10 min video to get a baseline understanding of girdling to prepare you for training session! (direct link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-L1RJn095w )

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hey everyone! really looking forward to tomorrow's event. If you haven't already, please watch the 10 minute girdling video I linked in the event description!

ALSO, please do not ring Ursula's doorbell upon arrival. Follow colored cones from curb along a pathway into her backyard, where our event will be taking place. Please show up at 9 am!

See everyone tomorrow!
