Sanchez School Park & Festival Beach Food Forest Spring Bash

Festival Beach Food Forest volunteers love to come together for It’s My Park Day, and this year we’re joining together with volunteers from Sanchez Elementary and Martin MS to help steward the nature play area and trees at Sanchez School Park (at the corner of Waller St & Holly St)! 

Once we’ve accomplished our goals at Sanchez School Park, we will take a short 7-minute walk to Festival Beach Food Forest where all volunteers can enjoy a free and delicious meal, food forest tours, and activities to get community input for our “Phase 2” expansion area (harvest kitchen, benches, lighting, etc).

IMPD March 1 Schedule:

8:45-9am: Arrive at Sanchez School Park

• We will meet inside the park at 66 Waller Street (corner of Waller and Holly Streets, next to Sanchez Elementary School @ the playground!)
• Park in the school parking lot between Spence and Waller Streets, or find permitted street parking along/nearby Waller St if possible. Pay attention to neighborhood parking signs- you will get a ticket!

9-9:15am: Opening Circle / break into project teams- Please arrive on time! 

9:15-11am - Mulch, mulch, and much more! 

• We will be improving the soft cushion on the children's nature play area and adding mulch to protect and nourish the trees in the park. We will also pick up trash, beautify the area, and clear debris from a rainwater collection area. There will be jobs for all ages and abilities - everyone is welcome!

Tools and gloves are provided but PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE and wear work appropriate clothing. We will have breakfast snacks too!

11-11:15am: Put away tools, take group picture & get It’s My Park Day t-shirts. Walk to Festival Beach Food Forest (3 blocks, 7 minute walk, parking may be limited next to the food forest) 

11:15am-1pm: It’s My Park Day Community Celebration at Festival Beach Food Forest!

• FREE LUNCH and entertainment (live music, vendors from local nature-related organizations, etc.)
• Food forest tours, community-driven park planning activities to help us design infrastructure in our 3 acre expansion area!

A regularly scheduled 2nd Saturday work day will also occur at Festival Beach Food Forest (29 Waller) on Saturday 3/8/25 from 9am-12pm. We hope you'll join us!
