About
Volunteering with Trinity Hospice Care of Georgia is flexible and a great introduction into healthcare and hands on patient care as well as a great way to have your resume standout. We love working with students from both Kennesaw and Marietta campuses since we have a lot of patients located in both cities. We operate year-round (volunteer services takes off holidays). Requests typically fall within business hours (M-F 9a-5p), but we have volunteers who prefer to go out on weekends or later in the afternoon as well and quite a few requests for Sunday during church. Staff is available 24/7 to address any needs that may arise. As might be imagined, our patient load can change so the number of opportunities can change. We also celebrate each one of our patient's birthdays in person (if possible) and take immense pride in honoring our veteran patients for their service.
Volunteering for Trinity Hospice Care patients consists of matching your interest with what patients, families, and our community needs. We strive to make sure our patients get the opportunity to share their lives and remain engaged in the community. The duties of a volunteer with our company can vary. Examples include run errands, mow grass, help community liaisons serve sno cones, make sure we get pics of patients for families, admin work etc. The most common request we get from families is for spending time with our patients. Whether it be talking with them, reading, singing, playing a board game etc., time and presence have shown to be one of the most valuable assets volunteers bring. Some family members also take on the role of primary caregiver and can experience burnout, so our companionship volunteers are important in adding a much needed break and ease of mind. A lot of families would love to be with their person all of the time, but have work, school, focus on childcare, and/or live in a different area. Also, hiring health aides can place extra financial burden on families in what is an already difficult time. No one deserves the only interaction they have to be with medical staff engaging in patient care. This is why it is so important to engage the community and have volunteers to bridge that gap.
We serve Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Paulding, Polk and Rockdale county
Due to the population we work with, background checks and fingerprinting are necessary before out volunteers can volunteer with us. This is at no cost to the volunteer but MUST be completed before you are allowed to interact with patients.
