MOJH Rising Scholars Mentoring Program

Open Opportunity

About

Weber State Students get to give back to the community by mentoring 7th - 9th graders at Mount Ogden Junior High. We will visit a classroom (2 on A-days and 2 on B-days) on Fridays and facilitate mini lessons and activities to promote college knowledge and academic progress. Volunteer Mentors will build relationships with students and be positive role models.

For spring 2023, these are the scheduled times. You must be available for at least one of these class times.

Fridays 8:50 - 9:20 AM (A day class option #1)
Fridays  11:40 - 12:10 AM (A day class option #2)
Fridays 8:10 - 8:45 AM (B day class option #1)
Fridays 9:25 - 9:55 AM (B day class option #2)

This program qualifies for HIEEs Pay. You can earn $11.50/hour to do mentoring, which is a high-impact experience. In order to do the HIEEs Pay program, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA, be a WSU student enrolled full time, and apply for the Peer Mentor position on jobs.weber.edu

Requirement Details

All volunteers will complete a background check. This is also needed if you want to participate in the HIEEs Pay program and earn $11.50/hour.

When you "apply" at jobs.weber.edu for the HIEEs Pay program, you will be walked through this process.

Training is also important to make sure you will be a safe and effective mentor. You must attend an initial orientation and regular training to review what will be covered when you visit the junior high classroom. There are also some online trainings you can do on your own that will help you learn more about volunteering and mentoring.
