About
UT Lions will meet to remove invasive shrubs and plant native equivalents to replace them. We will be girdling privets (Ligustrum spp.) and Taiwanese photinia (Photinia serratifoiia) and planting cherry laurels (Prunus caroliniana) to take their place. Like these invasives, cherry laurels are evergreen shrubs to trees and flower profusely in the spring. Unlike these invasives, cherry laurels produce nutritious fruit that is available to wildlife in fall. When mature, this cluster of cherry laurels will serve as a seed source for the TreeFolks native nursery.
Wear sturdy shoes and long pants you don't mind getting dirty. The area will still be wet from the week's rains, and at least part of the time we will be working in thick brush. Tools and work gloves will be provided. Bring a large container of drinking water so you can stay hydrated.
