Reading Buddies!

Read to the students of Hillis Elementary! Our goal is to establish a reading program that pairs Drake University students with elementary school students for reading sessions. We aim to encourage literacy and foster positive connections between the university and our school. Ideally, we would like to schedule these sessions twice a week, but the exact schedule is flexible and can be adjusted to fit the availability of both the university students and the elementary school students and teachers. In terms of time commitment, we envision each Drake student volunteering for about 1-2 hours per session, including time for preparation and debriefing. As for training and approval, we plan to provide a brief orientation to our volunteers to ensure they understand the program's goals and guidelines. Additionally, volunteers will need to complete any necessary background checks or requirements mandated by the school.
