Social Issue: Disability, Ability, & Employment Opportunities
Activities: During the day, students will provide administrative and landscaping services to assist WWRC in their daily functions. In the evening, students will have the opportunity to meet and work with clients.
Overview: In a Branch Out Alternative Break, you will join a team and engage in service-based learning to make an impact while connecting with new people and developing skills in issue-based action. Our vision is to create a community of active and educated individuals dedicated to the pursuit of social justice. We aim to grow as active citizens, together.
Our teams work with a community partner organization to address a particular social justice issue. Led by our Site Leaders, you will engage in pre-trip education and orientation about your Break's focus issue and community, and you will engage in training to prepare for action. During your break, you'll work with your partner on specific projects and goals, and critically reflect on your actions throughout. Following your break, you and your fellow Breakers will lead a reorientation effort, bringing what you've learned and your passion for the social issue back to Williamsburg.
Breaks are free for all students.
Applicants must view a mandatory info session to participate. More information about Branch Out Alternative Breaks' organization, partnerships, and opportunities can be found here.
Because alternative breaks are in close shared quarters, and often in proximity to people with vulnerable conditions, we ask that all participants be up-to-date on their vaccinations against COVID-19.
