I really enjoyed my time doing service learning today with my A&T Honors peers. We spent the day helping the staff at Jackson Middle School paint walls to make the space more welcoming for the students. My main job was painting bulletin boards black so teachers could use them, which was fun and interactive. The only trick part was painting the corners near the furniture, but I worked around it by using a piece of black paper to shield the furniture while I painted. It felt good knowing I was doing something that would directly help the school and the community, especially since it gave me a chance to give back to my hometown.
Overall, it was good day. I got to work with my classmates, come up with small creative solutions, and just enjoyed being part of something bigger than myself. Even the bus ride there and back gave us a chance to talk, laugh and get to know each other better. It was a hands on way to learn about teamwork , giving back, and what service learning is really about.
