Impacts
During this event, we cooked breakfast and distributed it to the homeless. The most influential part of my service was talking to them, where I got to discover their interests in sports and art, most importantly the smiles were very bright. I learned that sympathy goes a long way especially when someone needs help, food fills their stomachs but kind words fills their thoughts. I am grateful for this opportunity, which gave me a chance to give back to my community. Allowing me to confidently say that breakfast holds a different meaning thanks to these kind-hearted people.
This opportunity was incredibly fulfilling. The morning's organization, from setting up breakfast and coffee to arranging the chairs, was smooth and efficient. Everyone there was friendly and welcoming, creating a positive environment for both volunteers and those who served. I feel that my role truly made a difference in the lives of the individuals we were helping.
This event promotes sustainability, hands-on learning, and community engagement. The blend of nature and tech (AI plant ID) is especially appealing to a wide range of people, from gardeners to tech lovers. For me, this felt like a great invitation to connect with nature and peers.
I enjoyed working alongside others to revitalize the space through weeding and planting. What stood out most was the connection made between environmental stewardship and Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy—highlighting how environmental justice is deeply rooted in social justice. This reflection encouraged me to think more critically about who is most affected by environmental issues and how community-based efforts like this garden can be part of larger movements for equity and sustainability.
