Mobile Food Pantry – ACC Hays - Kyle - Saturday, February 1
This volunteering event was the Mobile Food Pantry at Temple College on Saturday, January 25th.
This past weekend, I had the privilege of volunteering at the Refugee Bazaar, an event organized by Global Impact Initiative (Gii) at East Communities YMCA in Austin. The bazaar brought together refugee families from countries like Afghanistan and Ukraine, who showcased and sold traditional clothing and food they created. A 100% of the proceeds went to them, allowing them to earn income and share their culture with the community.
My role involved greeting attendees and raising awareness about the event at the venue, ensuring more visitors could engage with and support the refugees' efforts. Witnessing the resilience and creativity of these families and being part of an initiative that uplifts them was incredibly fulfilling.
On Wednesday, June 26th, I volunteered at the morning kitchen shift at the food bank for 3.5 hours. This shift was from roughly 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.
On Monday, June 24th, I attended the afternoon warehouse food sorting shift. We managed to package 7300 pounds of produce.
On Tuesday, June 18th, I volunteered at one of Posada Esperanza's sites and helped Spanish-speaking children learn ESL. This was from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and we did various activities, including playing games to help them become familiar with colors, images, and numbers in English.
