Helped with cleanup of the NSSLHA Winter Wonderland event. Although i was there to help cleanup, many of the participants were still there, so i got to interact with a couple of the kids with hearing loss. They were having a great time, and it was really cool to see them interact with other children with hearing loss. I really enjoyed getting to witness something like this because it is not everyday you get to see this stuff. Yes, i want to work in geriatrics over pediatrics, but this experience made me realize i would love to (as an audiologist) work with children as well. They have their whole lives ahead of them, if i can help them hear as early as possible in life, then it will be a very rewarding career.

Audiogram is attached to this impact, interview sheet is also attached.
I really enjoyed getting to talk to someone with hearing loss who was very aware of everything. She knew that she did not take care of her hearing and she regretted it, but she knows there is no going back now. Tonya has a sensorineural hearing loss, but she struggles with tinnitus more than anything. It is not often you find someone that is very aware of hearing protection, and she knew this information before she experienced her lost, she just chose to not do anything about it. I loved talking to her about how it impacted her life because she was not embarassed or shy about the loss, but owned it and told me all i needed to know with no hesitation. She tries to not let it impact her too much, and continues to live her life to the fullest.
I took the online ASL class that was offered, and completed the entire course with 100% accuracy. I genuinely enjoyed the lessons in the course and the excerpts on the deaf community and culture at the end of each lesson. I feel like not only did I learn some important concepts of ASL, but I also benefitted from learning about the culture of the deaf community and how important signing, AAC, and other things were. The lessons were very helpful and perfect for a beginner in sign languages. I was easily able to follow along with the instructor without feeling overwhelmed. It gave me time to actually think about what I was doing instead of rushing to keep up with her, which was very beneficial. The lesson quizzes were also formatted wonderfully to where I could be challenged but not too much that I got frustrated or wanted to give up. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience of this online ASL class and I think it was structured wonderfully. I definitely feel like I learned something more than just signing from this class, which is what I was hoping for!
Attached is my certificate of completion of the course.
