    Social Work Values Lab (222L)

I have enjoyed the diverse population that we are getting to work and interact with. I have found how challenging it can be to be passive and understanding when you are triggered while communicating with some of our clients. This is a great example of the necessity of knowing yourself, your triggers, and your limits. You cannot be there for someone if you are in that headspace yourself. That is why they have listeners for the listeners! So we can better support each other within a community. This experience has been a great eye opener to how necessary systems of support are within communities. I feel like my main take away has been the reminder that this is a learning experience, but these are real people that we are here to support so before I log on getting in the headspace so that I can be fully present for them.

After meeting with my mentor more, I feel able to better navigate my service learning and be a better asset to the community we are serving.

I think this week was a great experience into how difficult it can be to utilize digital communication to serve, and how important it is to show up fully even when it is difficult.
