Description

Enjoy walks? Enjoy keeping birds safe? Sign up for a bird walk to help with research focused on keeping campus bird safe! Windows are unfortunately a large source of bird mortality, especially during spring and fall migration. An estimated 1 billion birds a year are killed by window collisions in the US alone, but there are measures we can put in place to lower these numbers.

With the Bird Safe Glass Initiative, volunteers can sign up to walk around buildings on campus and look for dead/injured birds. Using data collected by student volunteers on which windows birds are colliding with on campus, we can put targeted safety measures into place (e.g. bird window stickers) on buildings with high bird fatality rates.

Survey walks will reoccur every M/W/F 8AM-9AM from April 7th - May 2nd. We will meet by the fountain in front of the Union before all walks. Please try to arrive at least 5 minutes early so we can leave by 8!

Please register for any walks you're available for and feel free to message if you have questions.
