Swim Buddies

Aquatic therapy-based program focused on drowning prevention and developing swim skills for individuals with special needs and physical disabilities. Through one-on-one or small group support, Swim Buddies creates a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that builds confidence in the water. 

As a volunteer, you will be paired 1:1 or 2:1 with a participant to support them throughout the session. You role will include:

• Assist participants to accomplish three individualized goals that are listed on a board next to the water
• Provide consistent encouragement, guidance, and hands-on support in the water
• Ensure participants feel safe, supported, and have fun throughout the session

Volunteers will assist in three sessions with a 10-minute break between each, for a total of 4 volunteer hours. 

No prior swim experience is required - just a positive attitude and a willingness to participate

How to prepare:

• One-piece swimsuit or swim shirt and athletic shorts/swim trunks
  • Please avoid inappropriate or revealing swimwear as volunteers work closely with children and young adults
• Towel
• Change of clothes for after the session
• Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated
• Sunscreen, hat, and/or sun protective clothing
